Gallery 104 is pleased to present a group exhibition featuring 25 artists, organized by Y2K group and curated by Matthew Flaherty. The show will include the following artists: James Angell, Jordan Artim, Amanda Baldwin, Alex Balsen, Tahj Banks, Laura Bernstein, Alisa Bones, Sarah Faux, Travis Fish, Marcela Flórido, Sophie Grant, Patrick Groth, Linnea Kniaz, Dylan Kraus, JJ Manford, Alissa McKendrick, Tanya Merrill, James Miller, Bridget Mullen, Andy Pomykalski, Frankie Phillips, Clayton Schiff, Sarah Slappey, Keith J. Varadi, and Maureen St. Vincent. Taking place within Gallery 104, one of the premiere exhibition spaces inside NYA arts complex, this upcoming show will survey contemporary artists that explore the cross-sections of figuration and abstraction. Moreover, the show will elaborate on Y2K’s 2018 inaugural exhibition seafood stew—an exhibition that explored the shift between astrological signs.

The title of this exhibition is inspired by the understanding that mushrooms are akin to interconnected, networked minds, comparable to notions about dark matter or the cosmic web. The belief that everything is connected on a molecular level served as a starting point in the organization of this large-scale group exhibition. The exhibiting practitioners are working with various forms of figurative and abstract art, all while sharing an invisible and underlining stylistic aesthetic and artistic approach. The assembled works are not meant to be mimetic, but rather explore and reference the human condition through optical illusion, narrative auto-biography, still-life, fictional science, eroticism, celebrity fashion, multiculturalism, reductive abstraction, fabled medieval aesthetics, post-minimalism, romance, feminism, synthetic/mechanical/animated abstraction, cartoons, surreality, and sexuality.
The show will open on Thursday, April 4th with a public reception from 6-9pm, and include a performance piece by KIZU. Following the reception, there will be an after-party for artists, curators, collectors, and patrons at the nearby Roxy Hotel, located between Walker and White Streets on 6th Avenue. The show will remain on view until Saturday, April 27th. Visitors may see the show during its run Monday through Sunday between the hours 12-5pm.
